The Philosopher’s Path follows a canal through the northern part of Kyoto’s Higashiyama district, starting near Ginkaku-ji, the Silver Pavilion, and ending near Nanzen-ji Temple at the base of the Higashiyama Mountains. Noted philosopher and Kyoto University professor Nishida Kitaro was said to practice meditation on his daily walk along the canal to the university, hence the name. The hundreds of cherry trees lining the path explode with a profusion of blossoms around the beginning of April each year.
