As noted in the previous gallery, the Khorat Plateau forms the northeastern region of Thailand known as Isaan. At some 66,000 square miles (170,000 sq km), it represents nearly a third of Thailand's overall land area. The region's economy is fueled largely by agriculture, with rice the principal product. From a photographer's point of view, Isaan's vast rice fields can be appealing subjects in their own right, aglow with a dazzling and radiant green that is almost unreal on sunny days during the growing season. It should be noted, too, that Isaan has other natural attractions as well, as some of the following images will show.
