Following the Dhamma - Jim Wageman

Dhamma is the Thai word for dharma. Following the dhamma is a goal aspired to by most Thais, whether members of the Buddhist Sangha or the laity. Most Thais are Theravada Buddhists, followers of a faith that places the responsibility for spiritual growth and enlightenment on the individual. Merit-making is an important means of improving one's karma. It might take the form of an offering of food to the monks on their daily morning rounds. It might be the simple act of applying a bit of gold leaf to a Buddha image. Or it could be the donation of money to support a temple or charity, even the devotion of one's entire earthly existence to life as a monk.
